Resident Evil Requiem is one of the most anticipated releases of the year, and it is just a couple of days away now. Capcom just lifted the review embargo from the title, and it is already looking like a promising new entry.

Capcom’s much-awaited Resident Evil Requiem has managed to score an impressive 89 on Metacritic. The reviewers praise it for its excellent blend of horror and action gameplay and the characters.

Why it matters: There were major expectations from Requiem, considering it brought back Leon, one of the most popular characters in gaming, and for the most part, it has managed to deliver the hype.

Resident Evil Requiem has managed to score an impressive 88 on Metacritic

The overall reviews are really positive, with some even calling it the best entry in the franchise since Resident Evil 4. Here are scores from some major outlets:

  • Eurogamer: 10/10
  • ComicBook: 10/10
  • GamingBible: 10/10
  • Game Informer: 9.75/10
  • NoisyPixel: 9.5/10
  • VGC: 8/10
  • Metacritic: 89

This is a stunning return for the franchise after it became pure horror with Resident Evil 7 and 8. The 9th installment provides a good balance of action/horror, and doesn’t only ride on nostalgia but also on great gameplay, graphics, and characters.

Resident Evil Requiem Leon
The game delivers a perfect blend of action and horror

Leon’s return since Resident Evil 6 is as strong as ever, and Grace complements her nicely as a new introduction to the franchise. The storytelling is strong and worthy of being among the best games in the series.

Some flaws have been highlighted, but there isn’t anything significant that takes it too far away from the game. Anyhow, with Resident Evil Requiem, it seems like we have our first GOTY contender for 2026.
