Red Dead Redemption Remaster Potentially Arriving On Nintendo Switch

Red Dead Redemption On The Go!

Red Dead Redemption was randomly rated in Korea in late June, which hinted toward a potential remaster. This was followed by an insider claiming that Red Dead Redemption remaster was being worked on.

To back the claims of a remaster, a new reference on the Rockstar website was added with the codename RDR1RSP. In addition to the other information on the website, the update hints at a potential release on the Nintendo Switch.

Why it matters: The Nintendo Switch has a player base of over 120 million users. This would allow millions of players to enjoy Red Dead Redemption while providing the option of portable gameplay.

Tez2 has reported that PS3, Xbox 360, and Nintendo Switch were recently added as platform buttons on the website.

While the inclusion of the older consoles may be confusing, this could hint at the game eventually arriving on the Nintendo Switch. Despite the weak hardware in the Nintendo hybrid console, it can easily handle games from the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Tez2 has also cleared that the update does not confirm platform availability, but a Nintendo Switch release would make a lot of sense. Rockstar has already offered games like LA Noire and GTA Trilogy on the console.

Furthermore, the Nintendo Switch would allow Red Dead Redemption to be playable on the go, providing a unique opportunity for Rockstar to capture the portable market.

While the remaster is anticipated to bring massive changes to the game, Rockstar could offer a version of Red Dead Redemption on par with the original release for Nintendo consoles.

Games like Dark Souls Remastered have taken a similar approach, with the game being closer to its original release on the Nintendo Switch. On the other hand, the PS4 and Xbox One versions received more enhancements.

Nonetheless, Red Dead Redemption will likely be well-received on the hybrid console. While its release remains unconfirmed, the remaster’s announcement could be made in the coming weeks.
