Machine Learning Will Lead To Biggest Leap For PS6 And Xbox, Suggest Analysts

Could Finally Offer 4K 60FPS Gaming!

Story Highlight
  • The current console generation has already been out for a while.
  • Tech experts recently talked about the PS6 and the next-gen Xbox, stating they could deliver the biggest generational leap.
  • It has been stated that this leap would primarily rely on machine learning features like those seen in DLSS.

The PS5 and Xbox Series S|X have not been as impressive as they initially seemed. Despite promising 4K 60FPS gaming, these consoles have disappointed more often than not.

However, Microsoft has already confirmed its next-gen hardware, dubbing it the biggest technical leap yet. According to the experts at Digital Foundry, machine learning innovations will be the most important component of this leap.

Why it matters: Machine learning has remained mostly unexplored in the console space, but PC gamers are already well aware of its benefits because of DLSS.

During Digital Foundry’s latest podcast, the tech experts discussed next-gen consoles and what it would take for them to deliver the biggest generational leap.

Digital Foundry discussed that machine learning is already playing a big role in PC gaming due to Nvidia DLSS. Recent reports have also suggested that the PS5 Pro will launch with PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, another machine learning-based upscaling solution.

The analysts asserted that this industry has barely explored what machine learning is capable of, as many applications, like material and texture quality improvements and even geometry, are yet to arrive.

Therefore, the experts believe that the console industry could reach the sky if it advances further into this side of machine learning.

The PS5 Pro Announcement Is Yet To Be Made

It has also been stated that with machine learning-powered features, PlayStation 6 and Xbox could finally offer real 4K-like gaming, potentially even reaching 60FPS simultaneously.

It’s clear that both Sony and Microsoft oversold their hardware this generation. Recent examples like Black Myth: Wukong, Final Fantasy 16, and more show how many next-gen games typically run at low resolutions to target 60FPS.

This will improve with the upcoming PS5 Pro, a console that could be revealed as soon as this month. However, the real leap will come once Sony and Microsoft debut brand new hardware for a new generation.
