PlayStation 5 was launched two years ago today, on 12th November 2020. The launch of the most anticipated console was split over two weeks due to the ongoing chip shortage. Though, despite a bumpy launch, PlayStation 5 had already sold over 5 million units worldwide by the end of 2020 during the global chip shortage period.

And by 2022, it showed the highest dollar sales in the United States during July 2022. Moreover, the PlayStation 5 has sold over 2 million units in Japan in 23.5 months, although it still lags slightly behind its predecessor due to inventory issues it faced at launch.

Today on its 2nd launch Anniversary, Twitter user @Zuby_Tech has highlighted some interesting records that PlayStation 5 has managed to break.

As mentioned in the tweet above, despite shortages and market scalping, it has become the fastest console to sell 10 million units and the fastest-selling PlayStation console ever, with over 25 million units sold worldwide since its launch as of November 2022.

Gamers usually prefer PlayStation due to the premium AAA first-party games Sony produces for its consoles that stay exclusive for a reasonable amount before branching out to other platforms.

Similarly, this year is taken away with a blockbuster PlayStation exclusive, God of War Ragnarök, which is now in the race to win the Golden Joystick Ultimate GOTY Award 2022. Undoubtedly, Sony has produced some excellent first-party exclusives for its consoles, which drives the most sales, as gamers want to experience new hyped games on day one.
