'Rockstar Won't Launch GTA 6 Until Its 100% Ready'

Story Highlight
  • A Former GTA developer says PC gamers might have to wait for GTA 6 till 2027.
  • Rockstar won’t release the game until it’s 100% because it doesn’t have any competition.
  • GTA 4’s delay was announced just 4 months before launch, so GTA 6 could face the same.

Ever since its first trailer dropped, Rockstar has been super quiet about what’s going on with GTA 6. There have been multiple rumors, including a delay in the 2025 release window. Now, a former GTA developer states GTA 6 for PC could launch in 2027.

Why it matters: A previous report suggested that the PC port for GTA 6 could launch 18 months after the console version. If the game is indeed planned for H2 of 2025 or even 2026, the 2027 PC release is rather imminent.

GTA 6 PC Delay
GTA 6 PC port could launch in 2027

Obbe Vermeij worked as a technical director for Rockstar until 2009, after the release of GTA 4. He also commented earlier on how Rockstar had to delay GTA 4 just four months before the release due to performance issues, so GTA 6’s claimed 2025 release could also be altered.

He further stated that because GTA 6 has no competition, Rockstar won’t release it until the game is 100% ready. This is essential in today’s world when most games launch in a broken state. As big of an entity as GTA is, it would be a shame if it faced a similar issue.

GTA 6
Console versions are launched first because PC ports are very technical

A user asked Vermeij about the PC port, to which he replied that PC fans would have to wait till 2027. We hope he’s just joking about it, but if the game indeed gets delayed to 2026, this is something that is bound to happen

2027 for you, I’m afraid

-Obbe Vermeij

So, if the port is indeed planned for 2027, PC gamers will have to wait another two years to experience GTA 6. Vermeij commented that PC ports have many technicalities and tend to take more time. Therefore, console releases are preferred first.

Talking about performance, he said he expects GTA 6 to be capped at 30 FPS for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S; however, Series S could be a difficult port. Meanwhile, the PS5 Pro could run the game at 60 FPS. But that’s speculation for the most part.
