2025 has been the year of RPGs, with titles like Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, Oblivion Remastered, and now Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 taking over the gaming world with universal praise from critics and fans. Oblivion Remastered, for instance, crossed 4 million players in no time and smashed the Steam concurrent users stat.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is following in similar footsteps, with the game attaining over 115k concurrent users on Steam and becoming one of the best-selling titles on the platform despite competition. And, to no one’s surprise, there is now a heavy chance fans will get to see more of the IP.

Why This Matters: A turn-based RPG like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 succeeding and spawning a franchise is good for variety in the genre.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 writer thinks a sequel or DLC is almost a certainty.

While replying to a fan’s messages regarding the game’s success, the lead writer of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Jennifer Svedberg-Yen, said that there is now a good chance a DLC or sequel of the RPG will enter production.

In the Instagram messages, the writer revealed that the team has always said there will be more content from the game’s universe if there is a strong desire from fans. And, from what Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s reception has been so far, there is every chance we’ll see a sequel or DLC very soon.

Considering how the RPG is developer Sandfall Interactive’s first project, it will be more surprising if the team decides to do nothing with such a successful IP. In just 3 days, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 sold a whopping million copies around the globe, and that was despite being available on the Xbox Game Pass.
