Nvidia Continues To Grow!

Story Highlights
  • Nvidia has announced that 500 games and applications support RTX features now.
  • Celebrating this milestone, the company is giving away various prizes.

With its RTX technology back in August 2018, Nvidia accomplished a remarkable feat and introduced groundbreaking tech to the gaming industry.

Five years later, the company supports over 500 games and applications in one way or another. Nvidia has proudly announced this milestone, celebrating the achievement with various prizes.

Why it matters: Ray tracing has marked the biggest innovation for modern games in recent years, allowing studios to aim for life-like lighting and shadows.

This journey started with Turing-based graphics cards known as the GeForce RTX 20 series. These were later joined by the GeForce RTX 30 and 40 series, and to celebrate its achievements, Nvidia is giving away some exciting prizes.

The best among the bunch is a $500 gift card for Green Man Gaming, a well-known online retailer selling cheap digital game keys for PC, Xbox, and Steam. These gift cards are valued at a total of $100,000, and Nvidia is giving away 200 of them.

The gift cards seem to have no limits, and winners may use them on any of Green Man Gaming’s DLC add-ons and games. Thanks to Nvidia’s efforts in pursuing ray tracing technology, games like Cyberpunk 2077 introduced path tracing earlier this year.

One interesting finding revealed by Nvidia is that 97% of GeForce GPU owners who have played Cyberpunk 2077 have either turned on DLSS or ray tracing while playing the game.

This graph shows how demanding the game is, requiring the usage of DLSS for optimal visual quality. Nvidia has also been continuously evolving and improving its upscaling technology since 2018.

With DLSS 2, the initial picture quality drawbacks were minimized. Since then, DLSS Frame Generation and DLSS Ray Reconstruction have been included in further versions of DLSS 3 and 3.5.

To improve game motion smoothness, DLSS Frame Generation generates additional AI frames. On the other hand, Ray Reconstruction takes the role of conventional denoisers for better image quality.

DLSS Frame Generation is currently limited to GeForce RTX 40 series cards. However, other technologies like DLSS Super Resolution and Ray Reconstruction are supported on all RTX GPUs from Nvidia.

With the next Nintendo console, ray tracing and DLSS will be available to even more people, allowing the console to handle 1080p gameplay. This should lead to faster adoption of Nvidia’s ray tracing features, establishing an even bigger lead for the company.
