The Ultimate DIY Handheld!

Story Highlight
  • A modder from China, known as Qingchen DIY, has created a high-performance portable gaming console.
  • The device is equipped with powerful internal components, including an RTX 4090 laptop GPU and an Intel Core i9-14900HX processor.
  • The portable console features a large 12.5-inch Dell touchscreen with a 4K resolution.

A Chinese Modder, Qingchen DIY, has outperformed the portable console competition by including an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 laptop. That’s correct, a Chinese user has constructed the ultimate portable console. Not only is it the most powerful in the industry, but it is also the largest with the highest resolution on the market.

As he demonstrated in his video, the high-end PC hardware allows his console to be the first capable of running games like Cyberpunk 2077.

This portable console is based on the high-performance hardware of a gaming laptop. This console not only has a 24-core Intel Core i9-14900HX (8x P-Core and 16x E-Core). But also a powerful NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Laptop GPU with 9,728 CUDA Cores and 16 GB of GDDR6 VRAM memory. This hardware is accompanied by 64 GB of DDR5 RAM @ 5,600 MT/s and a 2 TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD.

Another distinguishing feature is the Dell display. We are looking at a 12.5-inch IPS touch panel with a 4K resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 pixels. So it’s consistent with the hardware of this portable console.

Despite this display of strength, the console’s design is rather decent. Obviously, we are ignoring the size because it is clear that they have adapted laptop hardware into a console-like design. That hardware already has a predetermined size, so at least it makes use of that to add a huge screen.

Another good thing about its size is that it provides good cooling. When playing God of War (2016) at 4K 100 FPS and Cyberpunk 2077 at +60 FPS, the CPU has about 65ºC, while the GPU moves around 72ºC, with a total power usage of 174W. These are excellent data points; however, the battery capacity and how long the battery will last are unknown.
