- In Marathon’s PC performance guide, Bungie revealed that it plans to keep updating the game for many years to come.
- The developer assured fans that it is sticking with the extraction shooter for the long haul.
- Long-term patches and immediate updates are already in the pipeline to address players’ concerns regarding the game.
Unlike many predicted, Marathon hasn’t crashed at launch like Concord and has instead managed to amass a respectable player base on Steam. However, the Bungie title has still underwhelmed Sony, only selling 1.2 million copies, with just 19% of these sales being on the PS5.
Marathon has also been slammed by players for its difficult gameplay loop, even though critics have loved this aspect of the extraction shooter. Regardless of the launch performance and critical response, however, Bungie has announced plans to keep the game going for many years.
Why it matters: Marathon failed to reach the heights of Arc Raiders, but it has still managed to gain a core player base, which can grow further if Bungie keeps making good changes.

In the Marathon PC performance guide, Bungie has stated that it is “in it for the long haul” with the extraction shooter. The developer assured fans that it will be updating the game for many years to come, and that every aspect of the title will improve further based on player feedback.
We are in it for the long haul with Marathon. We look forward to many years of steady improvements to every aspect of the game.”
Bungie further explained that, just as the team refined the extraction shooter’s visuals after initial fan criticism, Marathon’s performance on PC will improve over time.
The developer didn’t go into specifics on how the extraction shooter will be updated, but confirmed that it has long-term changes planned in addition to immediate updates that will improve CPU performance and other features.

Despite opening to an underwhelming Steam concurrent player count, Marathon has been averaging a respectable 380k Daily Active Users on the platform. Hence, it’s good to know that Bungie will improve the game for the thousands of players who have stuck around.
