Mafia: The Old Country Has Surpassed 800K Units, Almost Half of Them Sold on PS5

PS5 Is The Leading Platform!

Story Highlight
  • According to an analytic firm, Mafia: The Old Country has sold only 800K units, so far.
  • Almost 50% of the copies were sold on the PS5, and the rest on Xbox and PC combined.
  • This could be due to poor optimization on PC, compounded by the fact that it features Denuvo.

Fans were initially pretty hyped for Mafia: The Old Country, but as the release date drew closer, the hype began to die down. The critics also didn’t give it solid ratings, which is why perhaps many fans were skeptical of buying the game.

Its launch on Steam was okayish as it failed to surpass two of its predecessors’ all-time peaks. Now, an analytics firm reveals that the game has only sold 800K units, with most sales coming from the PS5.

Why it matters: It has been over a week since Mafia: The Old Country was released, so the fact that it sold than a million seems disappointing. However, it is impressive that PS5 is the leading sales platform.

Mafia The Old Country Sales
According To Video Game Insights, Mafia: The Old Country Has Sold Less Than 1 Million Copies

Video Game Insights, by Sensor Tower, is a company that excels in bringing market data and analysis of video games. The firm revealed that the game managed to sell 800,000 copies in four days across Xbox, PC, and PlayStation

PlayStation 5 contributes to around 48% of the sales. In comparison, PC and Xbox contribute to the remaining 52%. To be precise, it sold almost 38% copies on Steam and the rest on Xbox

It is not surprising that it sold the lowest on Xbox, mainly because of the company’s change in approach. Also, the console sales aren’t that high. On the other hand, PlayStation 5 is still selling rapidly, throughout the world.

The Latest Mafia Was Highly Criticized By The Fandom Before Launch

It should be noted that the main concern on the PC was that the game’s optimization isn’t good due to it being made via Unreal Engine 5. Additionally, Denuvo is present, which negatively impacts performance and is a deal breaker for many gamers. These could be the reasons why there is such a difference between the two platforms in terms of sales.

It is worth noting that the average playtime is 8.8 hours, which seems about right given the game is only 10-12 hours long.
