"It Will Be Out Best Work Yet"

Story Highlight
  • Larian Studios is now working on its next project.
  • While this game won’t be Baldur’s Gate 4, the team carries the same fundamental approach.
  • The CEO states it’s going to be their best work ever.

2023 was packed with great releases. However, Baldur’s Gate 3 came out on top, selling over 15 million copies and winning the GOTY award at almost every event, becoming one of the most successful releases.

However, the developers behind Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian Studios, have already moved on from the franchise. While discussing the following title, the CEO stated that it could be Larian Studios’ best work to date.

Why it matters: It’s exciting to see that after pulling off a title like Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian Studios still thinks it can do even better.

Larian Won’t Be Helping In The Development of Baldur’s Gate 4

Baldur’s Gate 3 director Swen Vincke recently released a message on Steam discussing the franchise and this team’s future, including that Baldur’s Gate 4 was never on the table.

Further addressing his next project, the CEO states it will leave everything Larian Studios has done behind.

looking at our narrative, visual, and gameplay plans, I think what we’re working on now will be our best work ever.

Swen Vincke states that he is very excited to share the project with everyone but waits until things fall into place. The director is excited because the next RPG looks and feels good.

Because of its ambitious nature, the game has also spurred doubts within Swen Vincke’s mind. However, he believes something extraordinary will arrive if Larian Studios can ultimately pull it off.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Raised The Bar For RPGs

Like others in the industry, we have complete faith in Swen Vincke and his team. What this team achieved with Baldur’s Gate 3 was nothing short of a miracle, so it was far from just luck.

Meanwhile, Hasbro is moving forward with hopes to create Baldur’s Gate 4.

While it may be disappointing to see Larian Studios stepping away from Baldur’s Gate, this team’s work was such a hit that fans will continue to try anything with the Larian Studios name moving forward.

Swen Vincke has also teased another RPG that will arrive after this one, but he believes the technology for that project won’t exist for quite some time.
