Silksong Doing What Many Thought GTA 6 Would Do!

Story Highlight
  • Hollow Knight Silksong finally launches next month.
  • At least three indie games have been delayed to avoid clashing with Hollow Knight’s sequel.
  • Indie developers believe their hard work will be overshadowed if they try to compete with this gigantic launch.

After what seemed like an eternity of waiting, Hollow Knight Silksong finally has a release date. The game even showed up with a demo at Gamescom 2025, allowing players to try an updated version of the hands-on build from 2019.

Needless to say, the entire industry is very excited to finally play the sequel to one of indie gaming’s biggest hits. In fact, the excitement has grown to such an extent that other indie games are moving out of Hollow Knight Silksong’s path in 2025.

Why it matters: The Hollow Knight sequel has kept millions waiting. Since its initial reveal, the franchise has only grown in popularity, practically guaranteeing a major launch for the second game.

For context, Hollow Knight Silksong is scheduled to launch on September 4, and this announcement has led to developer Panik Arcade recently moving its own game to a late September release.

In a post on Steam, the developer acknowledged that CloverPit would launch on September 26 due to the anticipation for Hollow Knight Silksong. As per the team, it intends to give CloverPit the best shot possible at success, and Hollow Knight Silksong would have overshadowed the release.

The team behind Faeland made a similar Steam post, admitting that Team Cherry’s recent announcement has led to an unexpected change of plans. Faeland was previously intended to launch on September 9, but the team will now share a new release date in the near future.

The most significant delay came from Aeternum Game Studios, which pushed its game, Aeterna Lucis, to 2026, noting that Hollow Knight Silksong would lead to Aeterna Lucis flowing under the radar of many players.

Moreover, the team added that this massive indie title was just one of the reasons for the delay.

Team Cherry Has Spent A lot of Time Polishing The Experience

While many expected GTA 6 to cause most of the game delays in 2025, it seems Hollow Knight Silksong has taken GTA 6’s place.

As such, it’s clear that the title has already had a major impact on the industry. Between its wishlist numbers on Steam and recent buzz, the game is shaping up to be a record-breaking release for indie gaming.
