Highguard Has Lost Around 99% of Its Players Since Launch With Over Half The Reviews Being Negative On Steam

Is Highguard Actually Concord 2.0?

Story Highlight
  • Highguard was dubbed as Concord 2.0 when it was revealed at The Game Awards.
  • It opened to 97K players on Steam, but has now lost 99% of that player base.
  • More than half of the reviews are negative, with most not recommending the title.

Even before its launch, Highguard was a disaster in the making. The title offered nothing special and was handed the pressure of being showcased at the final spot of The Game Awards, despite not even paying for it. It came out, and as expected, failed

Things have gone even worse as Highguard has now lost 99% of its player base on Steam since launch. Additionally, the overall reviews for the game are also “Mixed”, with half of them being negative.

Why it matters: Highguard was being dubbed as Concord 2.0, and that now seems to be materializing into a reality. The servers are still up, but the diminishing player base doesn’t point towards a promising future.

People were really intrigued by Highguard as initial impressions promised a decent experience. This led to it opening with a healthy 97K CCU on Steam, which has now fallen to just barely over 1K players.

The reviews aren’t much help either, as out of 38K, over 21K are negative. Interestingly, players say that the game is fine; however, it needs more character to stand out. But there’s another thing that’s leading to bad reviews.

Following this disaster, developer Wildlight Entertainment laid off a significant number of its staff after Highguard bombed. So, players are concerned that this is an indicator that the studio won’t be committed to the future of the title.
