Beating Palworld By A Considerable Margin!

Story Highlights
  • Helldivers 2 has topped Steam’s charts as the paid game with the highest revenue in H1 2024.
  • It only fell behind the free-to-play CS2 and earned significantly more than the third-placed Palworld.
  • Despite the massive success, Helldivers 2 has lost most of its player base.

Helldivers 2 is one of the most successful releases of 2024. Despite losing much of its player base, the game has managed to record staggering sales numbers. According to a new analysis, Helldivers 2 was the top-paid title on Steam by revenue in H1 2024.

Why it matters: Helldivers 2 took the industry by storm, averaging over 400K concurrent players at one point. It only makes sense that the success translated into impressive revenue.

Helldivers 2 earned the most revenue among paid games in H1 2024.

According to a report from Game Discover Co, Helldivers 2 outclassed the competition in the first half of 2024. It earned an overall revenue of $458 million, only second to CS2, which recorded $610 million.

CS2’s position at the top makes sense because it belongs to an established IP and is free on Steam. Meanwhile, Palworld, with $378 million in revenue, took the third spot. This is also impressive but quite modest compared to what Arrowhead achieved with Helldivers 2.

Still, Palworld was a very popular release earlier this year. It became the game with one of the highest numbers of concurrent players, reaching over 2 million users.

Helldivers 2 and Palworld dominated Steam’s revenue list.

Other notable names on the list, like Call of Duty, are found quite a bit lower.

Activison’s first-person shooter took the 17th place, with single-player titles like Ghost of Tsushima, Dragon’s Dogma 2, and Elden Ring towering above it. Tekken 8 also made it into the top 20 games.

Despite the great figures, Arrowhead’s release seems to be struggling right now. Even after Helldivers 2’s latest update, which was deemed as its ‘biggest’ one, it is only averaging 35K concurrent players on Steam.

Considering the loss of its player base, it will be interesting to see where the studio goes from here. The good news is that the team is constantly listening to the players and regularly supporting the game, which could eventually help it win back its audience.
