- Helldivers 2 community manager says the game was all about having fun with your friends.
- It has lost its direction, which recently led to the game reaching mostly negative reviews on Steam.
- Recent updates drew criticism for having performance issues and nerfing the weapons.
Once a solid contender for the Game of The Year Award, Helldivers 2 isn’t what it used to be. It was one of PlayStation’s biggest launches on PC and even the game with the most revenue in H1 2024. However, the game isn’t doing too well right now.
Why it matters: After some recent updates, Helldivers 2 isn’t the same fun experience where you could sit down with your friends and spread democracy. This even led to its reviews turning negative on Steam.
Helldivers 2 community manager recently took to their Discord (via N4G) server to discuss the game. Twinbeard addressed the players’ concerns and said that the upcoming updates are the first step in getting the game back on track.
The main goal of the team is to make the game more fun for the masses so they won’t be able to please everyone. The game had lost its direction, and having fun with friends was all it was about, but sadly, that isn’t the case anymore.
Having fun with your friends is what the game is all about.

Helldivers 2 recently got a Freedom update that brought a bunch of changes to the game. One of the most annoying things about the update was a nerf to the weapons that made the game unnecessarily difficult.
In addition, there were also significant performance issues. However, Arrowhead has finally revealed a roadmap for future updates, which will go live next week. The updates could be a redemption arc for the game.
Helldivers 2 was one of the rare examples of live service done right. With failures like Suicide Squad and Concord, games like Helldivers 2 make you appreciate the genre. So, we would love to see Arrowhead make the game as fun as it used to be.
