Developers Putting Unreal Engine 5 To Good Use!

Story Highlight
  • Hellblade 2 was already considered one of the most promising games in terms of visuals.
  • The game has come a long way since its trailer in 2021, as a side-by-side comparison shows a massive visual overhaul.
  • Improvements consist of better facial detail, more detailed environments, and more.

Hellblade 2 has undoubtedly become one of the most highly anticipated titles for this year. The first game has led to high expectations for its upcoming sequel, which has impressed so far.

One of the standout features of the title is its visuals. Ninja Theory recently released a video on their YouTube channel featuring a scene reminiscent of the 2021 trailer, showcasing remarkable advancements in a side-by-side comparison.

Why it matters: AAA games have a reputation for often ending up downgraded compared to the advertised footage. Therefore, this is a nice change of pace.

The latest rendition of the scene showcases significant improvements in various elements such as hair, skin, fire, clothing, and the overall environment, surpassing the quality observed in 2021.

Back then, the 2021 trailer was considered impressive. However, comparing the same scene with the highly enhanced visuals of the current version makes the 2024 rendition appear akin to a slight remaster.

This isn’t to diminish the visuals of the game in 2021 but rather to acknowledge the remarkable progress Ninja Theory has made since then. A visual upgrade was expected, given the early stage of development in 2021.

Still, the extent to which the game’s visuals have improved is phenomenal.

Ninja Theory Believes Fans Like Shorter Games

This title has also earned the distinction of being hailed as the best-looking Unreal Engine 5 release so far. The developers have emphasized their focus on delivering an experience akin to a high-quality indie movie, which aligns with their pursuit of exceptional visuals.

The game is set to launch on May 21st, but there are concerns that it may not receive the exposure it rightfully deserves. This is attributed to Xbox’s perceived mishandling of the game’s marketing efforts thus far.

The marketing has led to a negative effect on the game as it has failed to even reach the top 200 Steam seller list 11 days before launch. However, fans remain hopeful since Xbox promises to dial up efforts as the release date approaches.
