Gamescom is returning in 2023, with the event scheduled for August 23. Gaming giants like Xbox and Bethesda have confirmed their presence at the event, and a new leak hints at Valve and Half-Life attending Gamescom.
While Valve is known for various IPs and games, the gaming giant may have an announcement for the Half-Life franchise.
Why it matters: The demand for a new Half-Life entry is undeniable, but Valve has not released a major sequel to the second game. Nonetheless, fans of the series are always excited about any potential reveals.
According to a report, the Gamescom companion app confirms Valve is one of the many publishers attending the event next month.
However, the app also states that the Half-Life franchise is involved in Valve’s presence. This can be seen in the screenshot shared on Reddit.
While some fans might be hoping for the grand reveal of the third game in the franchise, the announcement could be related to Half-Life Alyx. The VR game has already received plenty of praise worldwide.
However, it is not playable on the recently released PS VR2. Therefore, the gaming giant could be looking to announce the popular VR title for the recently released VR hardware from PlayStation.
Furthermore, Half-Life 2 is over a decade old, and Valve could announce a potential remaster of the game with technologies like ray tracing. The gaming giant has implemented similar technologies in Portal.
A fan-made interpretation of Half-Life 3 has already shown the potential of such an upgrade.
While all of this sounds exciting, it is important to note that nothing is set in stone. Therefore, it would be best to wait for official confirmation. Gamescom will be hosted in Germany from August 23. The event will last for four days, bringing new game reveals, gameplay demos, and more from the industry.
