Last year, a group of dedicated GTA fans decided to collaborate and bring the Cluckin Bell restaurant from GTA to real life. Due to the accurate representation of Cluckin Bell from the games, the event held at the Comic-Con last year was a success.
In light of last year’s success, the crew made the decision to return for Comic-Con this year while also integrating Burger Shot, another well-known fast food restaurant in the GTA franchise.
Unfortunately, a cease-and-desist letter was issued to the creators shortly after the announcement, instructing them to discontinue all operations regarding the Burger Shot and Cluckin Bell event planned for Comic-Con.
Why it matters: As seen several times with Take-Two and Rockstar, they are not tolerant of potential copyright infringement and take swift action against violators. However, this restaurant was well-received and provided an excellent place for GTA fans to visit.
Smokin J’s BBQ, the creators of the IRL restaurants, emailed RockstarINTEL and stated:
“We have been forced to scrap the Burger Shot event that was planned.”
This is unfortunate news for everyone looking forward to trying out the GTA-themed restaurants, especially during Comic-Con, which would have drawn a large crowd.
However, there is some good news, as indicated in the email:
“We are still doing a Cluckin Bell type installation next weekend.”
They further mention that it would be a spoof installation branded as “Don’t Cluckin Tell.”
Comic-Con is set to take place this week from July 20-23. Various games, movies, and popular IPs will be present at the event, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 from Insomniac Games has also been confirmed for an appearance.
With all the excitement around the event, Cluckin Bell would have been a joy for fans at the event. Still, fans can look forward to the spoof installation.
