- The Take-Two CEO believes GTA 6 will bring a new wave of players to the PS5 and Xbox Series S|X.
- He also states that other games coming this year will contribute to current-gen hardware sales.
- Despite GTA 6 skipping a PC release, the CEO acknowledged that PC gaming is growing at an impressive rate.
GTA 6 is set to be one of the few titles skipping a day-one PC release this generation. This move will limit Rockstar Games’ upcoming title to an install base that currently stands below 100 million, but Take-Two is hopeful about the future of console gaming.
As per CEO Strauss Zelnick, GTA 6 itself will bring a major boost to console sales in 2025.
Why it matters: The GTA 6 PC port could take up to two years to arrive after its console release, leaving fans with a long waiting period.
Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of Take-Two, recently spoke to IGN and discussed the implications of a console-only release for GTA 6.
When asked about the somewhat dwindling sales of consoles, he was quick to note that GTA 6 would likely disrupt this trend. Zelnick predicts that 2025 will see the PS5 and Xbox Series S|X becoming more popular than ever.
When you have a big title in the market, historically that has sold consoles. I think that will happen this year.
-Strauss Zelnick
He believes that games from other studios, in addition to GTA 6, will play a major role in boosting console sales.
Interestingly, the CEO also acknowledged the growing importance of PC gaming. While a recent Take-Two report showed how little this platform contributed to the publisher’s overall revenue, the CEO believes PC will only become more important as time goes on.
Still, Rockstar Games is choosing to stick with its historical philosophy. The gaming giant will likely bet on double-dip purchases and hope to sell GTA 6 to the PC audience after making records on PS5 and Xbox Series S|X later this year.
