- Gotham Knights studio WB Games Montreal has suddenly laid off 99 developers, as per a new report.
- These developers were working as support to produce additional content for the Suicide Squad title.
- Their jobs were likely slashed since the live-service title will end any kind of support after Season 4.
Despite enjoying a lot of success and creating unforgettable experiences, Warner Gaming has been on a steady and steep decline over the last few years. The company’s notorious focus on live service and multiplayer titles has harmed the reputation and performance of many of its subsidiaries. Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League is one such flop, and the ramifications it caused are still being felt to this day.
Now, 99 developers associated with the controversial title are being fired. WB Games Montreal is sacking most of its team who were working on additional content for the Suicide Squad game.
Why it matters: 99 developers getting sacked from WB Games Montreal paints a grim picture of the current state of the gaming industry.
As reported by Radio-Canada, the studio has allegedly fired more than a third of its Keywords employees and subcontractors. Staff was seemingly called to a meeting this Monday, where the layoffs were announced. Many of the developers claimed they felt ‘depressed’ and ‘stressed’ after receiving the terrible news.
The impacted 99 developers could either choose to be put on a contact list or receive job-hunting support. However, more work from them wouldn’t be requested until 2026, at the very least.
The report should still be taken with a grain of salt, as WB Games Montreal has yet to come forward with an official statement.
Currently, the studio is rumored to be working on its next single-player AAA DC game in Unreal Engine 5.
