God of War 3 Remastered Surpassed 4 Million Sold Copies

God Of War Is The Most Profitable PlayStation IP!

The God of War franchise is among the best offerings from PlayStation’s first-party line-up and the IP has been released on four generations of PlayStation consoles.

While God of War 2018 took the series to new heights, it was already a massive IP for PlayStation on previous consoles. The first game from the franchise on PS4 was God of War 3 remastered, and it also sold well for a remaster.

According to the LinkedIn profile of the former PlayStation Senior Social Media & Studio Marketing Lead, God of War 3 Remastered sold over 4 million copies.

Why It Matters: God Of War 3 Remastered was released haft a decade after the original game on PS3. However, it still sold well, showing the love for the franchise.

The LinkedIn profile also reveals that God of War is the most profitable IP for PlayStation.

God of War 3 served as the final installment in the first trilogy of the series, concluding Kratos’ journey in the Greek realm. The franchise made a comeback in 2018 with a new entry in the main storyline, featuring an older Kratos living in the Norse realm.

The remastered version was mostly similar to the PS3 release, but it ran at 60FPS and an improved 1080p resolution. God of War 3 was already a visually appealing title, and the PS4 release made it even better.

This likely helped with the impressive sales number. Since the game already sold 4 million copies in 2020, the remaster has likely exceeded this figure in the three years since then.

The most recent game in the series, God of War Ragnarok, was also well-received, garnering positive reviews upon launch and selling 5.1 million copies in its first week. This success further showcases the IP’s popularity.

Much like God of War 3, Ragnarok marked the end of Kratos’ journey, but in the Norse realm. Recent job listings also indicate that Santa Monica is already working on the next God of War game.
