- A Forza Horizon 5 port for PS5 has reportedly been completed.
- Xbox seems to have delayed the game after plans to launch it this year.
- This may have been done after the backlash to the sudden arrival of first-party games on rival platforms.
Earlier this year, Xbox launched its latest approach to the gaming industry. By bringing various first-party titles to the PS5, the gaming giant made it clear that any Xbox Game Studios release could eventually arrive on rival hardware.
Forza Horizon 5 was also among the games rumored to receive this treatment, but Xbox has yet to say anything on this matter. Sharing an update on this racing title, an insider states that a PS5 port is already finished.
Why it matters: The Forza IP belongs to the trio of Xbox’s strongest IPs. Needless to say, its arrival on rival platforms would be a huge deal.
As reported by eXtas1s, a PS5 version of Forza Horizon 5 already exists and will arrive eventually.
The same insider was among those who broke information on Xbox’s intentions to port its premier racing series to PlayStation consoles, with the reports later being corroborated by other sources.
As per eXtas1s, the game’s PlayStation release was delayed by Xbox due to unknown reasons. The gaming giant reportedly believes Forza Horizon 5 has the potential to do well on PlayStation, and it is easy to see why.
Earlier this year, Sea of Thieves made quite a name for itself on the platform. If the same holds true of the Forza IP, Playground Games will have much to gain from a PS5 port.
Why the game was delayed remains anybody’s guess for now. However, this decision may have had something to do with the initial backlash to Xbox’s third-party ports.
With Microsoft now making its ‘Everything is an Xbox‘ campaign more recognizable, this backlash is no longer as severe, potentially setting the stage for Forza Horizon 5 on the PS5.
