Elden Ring Needs Another DLC After Shadow of the Erdtree

Expert Verified By

Shadow of the Erdtree may be FromSoftware's biggest DLC ever, but it still left me wanting more from the Elden Ring universe.

Story Highlight
  • Shadow of the Erdtree solves several mysteries about Elden Ring and delivers many plot twists.
  • However, the lore is still incomplete after such a massive expansion.
  • To address those mysteries, I believe FromSoftware should release another DLC or make a sequel to Elden Ring.

Many fans waited over two years for more Elden Ring content. Once FromSoftware announced Shadow of the Erdtree, the excitement quickly reached new levels, and the DLC eventually exceeded expectations.

I consider Shadow of the Erdtree to have raised the standard of DLCs, as it even puts single-player games to shame. It is arguably my favorite DLC of all time, but even so, I believe Elden Ring needs another expansion.

Many mysteries still need to be answered, and we will not be able to solve them ourselves until there is an official answer.

Why it matters: There are many things in Elden Ring that the developer has left up to the players’ interpretation; however, some things need to be addressed since they are the main part of the story.

The Unsolved Mysteries

Gloam Eyed Queen Is Still A Mysterious Entity In Elden Ring

I am well aware that Miyazaki has worked extremely hard on the Elden Ring DLC, making it the company’s biggest expansion ever. Many single-player games don’t even offer half as much content.

However, no matter how great the DLC is, many unsolved mysteries remain. This is why most of the fandom wants another DLC. Fans hope to see George R.R. Martin returning with more lore, treating this IP like Game of Thrones or its book A Song of Ice and Fire.

We still don’t know much about the Gloam-Eyed Queen and the Godskins. We know that the Godskin apostle followed her, and Maliketh defeated Gloam Eyed Queen and took Destined Death from her, but that’s about it.

Miyazaki HAS to make another Elden Ring DLC

Godwyn The Golden has become a joke at this point, given how FromSoftware has treated him. I know his soul doesn’t exist anymore, but Fia did sleep with him in one of the endings. So, where is the child? There is no information about these events at all.

Melina also needs more screen time. We know she is Marika and Radagon’s daughter now, but that’s about it. What about the outer gods? How many are there? There are just too many unsolved mysteries, and this doesn’t sit right with me.

Miyazaki Has Made Himself Clear – Has He Now?

FromSoftware is arguably one of the best studios, and Miyazaki manages it better than anyone else. However, I do not like it when he doesn’t give a definitive answer to what is being asked.

As a leader of a studio, of course, people are going to ask him questions. However, he is often known to dodge such critical questions. He has often given fans hope that the team would like to work on Bloodborne, but will it ever?

Miyazaki has also said that there could be more possibilities in the future for the Dark Souls franchise. Dark Souls 3 is the end of the series, and this is quite obvious already. It seems like he often enjoys misleading fans.

He is now doing the same with Elden Ring. In previous interviews, he did not say that Shadow of the Erdtree would be the end of Elden Ring, but he confirmed that the team has no plans for another DLC or sequel.

Miyazaki basically left the doors open to both options but didn’t outright confirm anything. This seems like a false hope to me.

We Need A Better Conclusion

Dark Souls 3
Fans Need A Better Conclusion Like Dark Souls 3’s.

In Dark Souls 3, you were given pieces of the puzzles to come to a conclusion for an ending. That is a respectable end for the series. However, this is not the case with Elden Ring.

Shadow of the Erdtree reveals plenty of things about Marika’s past and Miquella’s scheme. However, that is about it. There is still much more left for us to learn about this universe.

Therefore, FromSoftware either needs to make a sequel or another DLC for the game. The lore of Elden Ring has so much potential that I believe Miyazaki underestimates it.

Following the DLC, this lore has been expanded further and deserves more depth. Perhaps the studio should consider making a prequel that explains some of the unexplored plot threads to further flesh out this universe. Hopefully, this won’t be the last we see of Elden Ring.
