BioWare Afraid of Negative Reviews?

Story Highlight
  • Dragon Age: The Veilguard review embargo is said to be lifted in just 2 days.
  • However, a famous content creator has revealed that BioWare didn’t give review copies to those who were more critical of the game.
  • According to him, none of the critical creators he knows of got a review copy.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard has a massive fandom anticipating the release, and that is all thanks to the legacy of the Dragon Age series. However, the hype isn’t that much, as it just managed to secure the 19th best-selling game spot on Steam.

The pre-orders don’t seem to be going strong despite the previews being positive. The review embargo is reported to be lifted on October 28th, but it seems like BioWare has hand-picked the reviewers.

One of the famous YouTubers has recently revealed that BioWare didn’t give review copies to those who were more critical of the game, which implies the developer might be manipulating the review score.

Why it matters: Dragon Age: The Veilguard has been receiving a lot of hate lately from fans, but the previews from many media outlets have been positive.

BioWare Not Giving Review Copies
BioWare Seems To Be Not Giving Review Copies More Critical Creators

WolfheartFPS, one of the famous YouTubers and reviewers, recently revealed that creators who were critical of the game didn’t receive the review copy

3 creators, myself included, were a bit more critical than others with our hands-on time with Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Not a single one of us will be getting a review code.

-WolfheartFPS

The YouTuber seems reliable. He has over 220K followers on YouTube and is famous for his interesting take on games. He is a bit more critical than your average reviewer, which is a good thing, given that the negative aspects of a game should be pointed out.

Another famous YouTuber, Luke Stephens, also didn’t receive a review copy, which further backs WolfheartFPS’ point.

BioWare seems to be closely monitoring the hands-on impressions and trying to control the game’s score. While this is a marketing strategy, it might backfire if more creators spoke up.

WolfheartFPS also mentioned that all of the ‘critical’ creators he knows of didn’t get the review copy, which further clarifies the point. He is actually one of the YouTubers who is heavily invested in part-based RPG games, so it was a shock for him not to receive the review copy.

The game will be released on October 31; the reviews are expected to come out in a few days.

What do you think of BioWare not giving review copies to those who were being more critical? Do you think the developer is trying to manipulate the score? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section or join the discussion on the official Tech4Gamers forums.
