- Dragon Age: The Veilguard failed to be nominated in any major category at The Game Awards 2024.
- The game has only received a nomination in the ‘Innovation in Accessibility’ category.
- Black Ops 6, Star Wars Outlaws, Diablo 4, and PoP: The Lost Crown were also nominated in the same category.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard was released to a pretty positive reception from critics despite being heavily criticised by fans. The fandom found the forced inclusivity ‘cringe’ as the game even lectures you on misgendering someone.
Due to such reasons, the title was surrounded by a massive controversy, and fans were concerned that it would be nominated for the GOTY award. However, not only was the game not nominated for Game of the Year, but failed to secure any major nomination at The Game Awards 2024.
Why it matters: The latest entry in the Dragon Age series was review-bombed on Metacritic, and over 90% of the players didn’t enjoy the game. So, it being nominated for major awards might have triggered more controversy.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard was only nominated for the Innovation In Accessibility category along with Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Diablo 4, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, and Star Wars Outlaws.
This category recognises games that add features, technology, and content for a wider audience. It seems like things The Veillguard was being criticised about worked in its favor.
However, the game still missed every other category, while games like Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Astro Bot were nominated in 7 categories each. While this might be disappointing for the fans who enjoyed Dragon Age: The Veilguard, others would be relieved.
Fans were concerned about The Game Awards’ jury, but after the nominees were announced, some of the concerns vanished. Even Black Myth: Wukong was nominated for GOTY, making it the lowest-rated game to be ever nominated for the award.
