Dice EA is known for making one of the market’s most popular first-person AAA shooting games, i.e., the Battlefield Series. Since the early 2000s, Dice has kept making different iterations of Battlefield games and has been quite successful; this was until the recent fiasco in the form of Battlefield 2042

However, Battlefield 2042 failed to live up to expectations, and the business has since been put on the back foot. The studio recently discontinued 128-player Breakthrough following a lackluster debut, replacing the formerly acclaimed feature with a 64-player variant. A few days later, they also stopped supporting Hazard Zone and stopped creating new material for this game mode.

Battlefield 2042 was quickly the most underwhelming game of the franchise. It had a lot of bugs at launch and did not accomplish what other Battlefield games were successful for. With a Metacritic score of just 68%, it is easily the worst game in the franchise so far. Even then, it seems Dice has no plans to make any game other than Battlefield as there is no time for anything else.

In an interview, President of Dice Rebecka Coutaz said that any non-Battlefield-related projects are “totally” in the background. She stated:

“We’re just focusing on Battlefield 2042, there is no time for anything else and that is what we want to do.

In three years, we want to be the first-person shooter powerhouse DICE deserves to be, and that’s what we’re aiming for.

The release of Battlefield 2042 was not what we expected. Our players and community were disappointed, but so was our development team.”

She also insisted that the updates and map for the recent season 1 have gone down well with the players and they are now generally enjoying it, for which she is proud of her team.

It should be noted that since its acquisition by EA, Dice has been responsible for some other huge franchises of games, which include Medal of Honor, Star Wars Battlefront, and Mirror’s Edge, to name a few. But it seems we won’t be seeing any of those games from Dice soon.

Also, It remains to be seen if Battlefield 2042’s enhancements would sway players. But one thing is sure: Battlefield will continue to be DICE’s primary priority for the time being.

Do you think it’s the right move by Dice, or should they focus on some other titles than Battlefield since Battlefield 2042? Let us know your thoughts.
