Kojima Productions Outdid Itself With Death Stranding 2!

Story Highlight
  • Fans state that Decima Engine is better than Unreal Engine 5 based on Death Stranding 2.
  • PlayStation’s in-house engine offers superior visuals with better optimizations.
  • Unreal Engine 5 has great visuals, but it suffers from massive performance issues.

Death Stranding 2 is finally out, bringing revolutionary graphics to the PS5 with optimization so good that everyone has been forced to praise Kojima Productions. And at the center of it all is PlayStation’s Decima Engine.

Fans are debating that the Decima Engine is superior to Unreal Engine 5, as it offers a significantly better gaming experience compared to the latter, which is often criticized for its significant performance issues

Why it matters: Decima has always shown its class, whether it’s with the Horizon series or something else, but with Death Stranding 2, Kojima Productions has taken it to a whole new level

Fans have taken to X to praise Decima Engine. Created by Guerrilla Games for Horizon: Zero Dawn, the engine was further improved by Kojima for Death Stranding. However, its latest form is the best yet, as seen with Death Stranding 2.

Many claim that the engine is in a ‘league of its own’, especially based on how detailed the character models are, and how graphically insane it is. It achieves this visual fidelity without even integrating tech like ray tracing, nanite, and more.

Death Stranding 2 takes visuals and optimizations to the next level thanks to the Decima Engine

That’s also a huge reason why the optimization is so good. Death Stranding 2 runs at 1440p 60 FPS on base PS5 without any frame drops. Eliminating ray tracing and similar tech offers huge performance benefits.

There is also the fact that Kojima only had to focus on one platform for optimization. However, it is truly remarkable how great a game can look despite omitting Unreal Engine, and Kojima Productions deserves massive credit for that.
