Cyberpunk 2077 Is The Best Open World Game I Have Ever Played

Expert Verified By

Cyberpunk 2077 Is CDPR At Its Best. The game combines an excellent open-world, exhilarating combat, and nuanced story-telling to create the best open-world experience I've ever had.

Story Highlight
  • Having played many open-world games, Cyberpunk 2077 still shocked me to my core.
  • The game has a brilliant open world, story, characters, and combat system.
  • After 100 hours of gameplay, it is the best open-world game I have ever played.

I have played every single GTA entry, Watch Dogs, Sleeping Dogs, Red Dead Redemption 2, and numerous other open-world games out there. Let’s just say I am a huge open-world fan who enjoys exploration.

Elden Ring is another favorite of mine, though I don’t necessarily count it in the same category because of the distinctions that come with the Souls-like genre. Anyhow, my quest to further explore the genre recently led me to Cyberpunk 2077.

I must admit that I’ve been ignoring this CDPR RPG for a really long time. In my defense, the game was in no condition to be played at launch, and I never got around to playing it later on. However, my first playthrough of Cyberpunk 2077 has left me in awe of CDPR’s work.

Why it matters: Cyberpunk 2077 was plagued with so many glitches and bugs on release that it was unplayable, but the RPG is in a completely different situation now

Cyberpunk 2077 Is A Never Ending Treat

I picked up Cyberpunk 2077 two weeks ago and already spent over 100 hours on the game; that’s how great it is.

The main story starts slow and a bit boring, but once you get stuck with Jhonny Silverhand, things immediately become interesting. It seems like a crime that I didn’t know how good of a character Jhonny Silverhand is. He is my favorite character in gaming history right now because of how well he is written.

At first, he just wants to kill you, but as the story progresses, you can see how his character changes. When he talks to you and gives you advice, it feels like he is talking to you in real life, and I just can’t get over that feeling. And his side quests? They are simply the best.

V aims to make a name for himself in the Night City, and Jhonny understands that. He does everything to save V’s life so he can continue living, making for one of gaming’s most iconic duos and friendships.

Cruising In Night City Never Gets Old

Even after playing for over 100 hours, I am still discovering new places in Night City. Cruising in Night City is just so fun, and it is an experience that no other setting has been able to match.

Imagine driving through the streets and listening to the Outsider No More or Valentino Combat Theme; the Chooms probably know what I am talking about. The experience is so relaxing that you can simply lose yourself in Night City’s melancholic yet marvelous vibe.

The city is also full of things to do. Complete side quests, explore the many nooks and crannies of Night City, or just interact with the RPG’s rich cast. I also think Cyberpunk 2077 has some of the best side quests in gaming, so you should not ignore this part of the game.

Completing the side quests alone can lead to hundreds of hours of gameplay, and these are definitely worth your time since they add to the experience.

Preem Combat Mechanics

The Combat Provides A Solid Experience

This game not only has one of the best open worlds, stories, and side quests but also one of the best combat systems of any RPG. I am addicted to the combat system, and if you have yet to see the madness of Cyberpunk 2077’s combat after update 2.0, then try it out as soon as possible.

The combat is rich and offers enough build diversity to keep the gameplay fresh for hours upon hours. A plethora of skills and abilities in your arsenal means that fighting in Night City is rarely dull.

My favorite weapon ended up being the Mentis blades. There’s just no other feeling like using a katana to deflect bullets. What it comes down to is the fact that you are basically a cyborg installed with deadly weapons; what could be cooler than that? Unlocking new abilities and testing them on the enemies is as fun as it can get.

If this RPG was released in this condition, then I am 100% sure it would have won Game of The Year in 2021.

That year was already light on competition, but I would even bet that Cyberpunk 2077 would have been able to beat The Last of Us Part 2 if it was nominated in 2020. While it’s a shame this didn’t happen, I urge everyone to give the RPG another shot today.
