- Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno previously expressed confidence in releasing the game near Hollow Knight: Silksong.
- However, it has been dominated by the indie giant in terms of all-time high player counts on Steam.
- Silksong has also likely had a strong impact on Cronos’ initial hype and sales, given the player statistics.
While many anticipated games decided to delay their launch to let Hollow Knight: Silksong wreak havoc in the gaming scene, Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno agreed otherwise. He believed Cronos: The New Dawn would instead benefit from launching near the indie giant.
However, Steam player counts show the impact of the simultaneous launches: Hollow Knight: Silksong drew 560K players, over 120 times Cronos’ peak.
Why it matters: Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno’s confidence in Cronos: The New Dawn launching near Silksong may have backfired after the horror experience failed to attract even 5,000 concurrent Steam players.
As seen in the SteamDB comparison, Cronos: The New Dawn has not even drawn in 5000 concurrent players yet on Steam. While both games are indeed quite different in core gameplay and genre, Silksong’s popularity alone caused it to overshadow Cronos.
Hollow Knight: Silksong’s launch was so dramatic that it caused issues across most gaming stores on different platforms. Cronos’ initial sales have also likely been deeply impacted by launching at a time when most of the industry was occupied with the indie platformer.
Cronos has also stood out as an excellent horror experience, boasting the eeriness of the Silent Hill franchise with plenty of action on the side. Bloober’s new project also has a modest budget, which can be recouped by only selling 1 million copies.
On a side note, fans also believe Silksong is priced less for all it offers, and it already runs at 4K 60 FPS on mobile using emulation.
Do you think Cronos: The New Dawn has suffered because of launching near Hollow Knight: Silksong? Was Bloober CEO’s confidence unfounded? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.
