The PS5 Pro Holds Its Own Against The PC Edition, But The Latter Is The Clear Winner.

Story Highlight
  • Crimson Desert’s performance is on a higher level on PC compared to PS5 Pro, thanks to Nvidia’s Ray Reconstruction.
  • The difference between the two ports is so night and day that some fans think the PC version looks like a remake.
  • The DLSS in Crimson Desert leads to better lighting, particle effects, and a higher level of detail, but the PS5 Pro does hold its own with PSSR upscaling.

Calling Crimson Desert’s launch a rollercoaster would be an understatement. The anticipated open-world title sold 2 million copies in just 24 hours and debuted with an excellent 240k concurrent users on Steam. However, the game has been embroiled in controversy due to janky controls, AI-generated art, and performance issues.

The Pearl Abyss title opened with mixed reviews on Steam but has since risen to a positive rating, thanks to the developer’s immediate response patches. As it turns out, despite some bugs, Crimson Desert is on an entirely different graphical level on PC, standing out compared to the PS5 Pro.

Why it matters: The PC edition of Crimson Desert overpowering the PSSR is a showcase for the technical prowess of Nvidia’s DLSS.

As showcased by YouTuber ElAnalistaDeBits, Crimson Desert on PC easily outperforms the PS5 Pro version of the game thanks to Nvidia’s Ray Reconstruction technology. The difference between the two ports is so stark that some fans think the title feels like a remake on PC.

According to the YouTuber, the interiors and shadows in Crimson Desert look far superior thanks to Nvidia’s tech, which offers a substantial improvement over the PS5 Pro. The open-world title has a higher level of detail, more particles, and better reflections on PC, standing out with its lighting.

Of course, the Ray Reconstruction isn’t without its flaws and does create issues with water in Crimson Desert, freezing the animation when the player stops. On the other hand, the PS5 Pro version is also not too bad, as the PSSR upscaling does a magnificent job at presentation and holds its own against Nvidia’s tech.

Crimson Desert PS5 vs PC
The open-world game has a sharp increase in lighting quality on PC because of DLSS.

However, overall, Crimson Desert is a much better-looking game on PC as Nvidia’s DLSS blows PSSR out of the water, despite the latter substantially improving the PS5 Pro edition.

Do you think Crimson Desert has been technically proficient on all platforms, or are the console versions lacking too much compared to PC? Tell us in the comments below or head to the Tech4Gamers forum for discussion.
