A Dune survival game has been announced since 2019. Developer Funcom is currently working on the project, and the title is set in an open world based on the Dune franchise. The developer has worked on games like Conan Exiles in the past, making them a suitable choice for a brand new survival title.
While no official news has been released on the game, some information has appeared in the last month based on a job listing that the developer seems to be using Unreal Engine for the upcoming game. There hasn’t been much information on the project since then.
However, a developer has recently given us a look at the game through a few concept art images. The images come from Andre Pires, the team’s lead 3D hair and groom artist.
The concept art depicts the developer’s take on the Harkonnen Captain. This design was mainly inspired by the original Dune film from 1984. However, the studio chose to add a few original elements according to their design elements.
The developers chose to go for a battle-hardened look, suited to a captain. This resulted in the character’s rugged appearance, as seen above. While this design might seem quite different, things appear to add up when looking at the developers’ vision for the game.
This should give players a small taste of what the upcoming game has to offer. The studio has been doing its research and is working to make the game very accurate to the source material.
The Dune IP has seen a resurgence in recent times. 2021’s Dune movie was extremely well received by audiences, and likely brought in a whole new group of fans into the Dune franchise. With enough care and passion, developer Funcom could capitalize on this success.
Dune is shaping up to be an interesting title, and it could even go on to be the developer’s most successful work yet!
