Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has been a breakthrough title this year. It isn’t only a critical but also a massive commercial success. While the game is universally acclaimed by the audience, it’s getting the same treatment from studios as well.
The Witcher and Cyberpunk studio, CDPR, has also praised Clair Obscur and says that we need more games like it to improve the gaming industry and deliver to fans what they expect.
Why it matters: Clair Obscur is a fresh new take on turn-based games, and while it isn’t considered very popular, the title has single-handedly opened the genre to the more mainstream audience through its creativity.
Taking to X, the CDPR global community director raved about how good Clair Obscur is. From the characters to the storyline and the gameplay, and the music, he praised everything Sandfall has done with the game.

He stated that we need more games like this based on how good it is. This isn’t the only time it has received praise from a developer. Even the legendary Hideo Kojima talked about how great Claire Obscur is, especially based on its team size.
It also isn’t a full-priced AAA title, which makes it even better and also still keeps the debate of the $80 game alive, whether they’re worth it or not. Nonetheless, games like Clair Obscur are something the industry should focus more on.
