- Black Ops 7 is just over a month away from its release date, and the game’s beta is currently live.
- Despite the beta being active, the pre-orders on PC seem to be doing much worse than anybody expected.
- The title currently sits at the 106th position on Steam’s best-sellers list, while Battlefield 6 is at the top spot.
Call of Duty has long dominated the first-person shooter genre. Year after year, this franchise produces best-selling hits that outsell the competition, but it seems Black Ops 7 may not follow this trend.
Following a surprisingly lukewarm beta, the game seems to be falling behind on the Steam top-sellers list.
Why it matters: An insider already stated that Call of Duty pre-orders were down this year compared to 2024, and the Steam charts suggest that this statement was indeed true.
At the time of writing, Black Ops 7 is falling behind most other games on Steam’s best-selling list. In fact, the game isn’t even in the top 100 best-selling titles on the platform.
Instead, Black Ops 7 is currently the 106th best-selling Steam title. The game is even being outsold by titles like Hollow Knight: Silksong, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Digimon Story Time Stranger, and Arc Raiders.
In stark contrast, Battlefield 6 is the #1 best-seller on the platform, highlighting the big discrepancy between these two IPs in 2025. This is interesting because Black Ops 7 is currently available to the masses through the ongoing beta, and much has been said about the title.
Despite its current relevance in online discussions, the title seems to be falling behind in terms of pre-order figures. Although Steam numbers alone don’t mean Call of Duty is doomed this year, the franchise certainly seems to have found itself in a tough position.
Black Ops 7 has already received so much criticism that it could end up being one of the worst-performing releases in the IP to date.
On paper, this entry has addressed a lot of the community’s feedback so far. Many hardcore fans also have positive things to say about the beta, but it seems general audiences are less enthusiastic about Call of Duty’s latest outing.
