Baldur’s Gate 3 Has Allegedly Reached 5.2 Million Sales Milestone

2.7 Million Sold Since PC Release!

Baldur’s Gate 3 has shattered all expectations, emerging as one of the best offerings of 2023. The RPG breaks new ground in the gaming industry, allowing it to soar past The Legend of Zelda on Metacritic to become the best-rated game of the year.

Following months of anticipation, Baldur’s Gate 3 launched to nearly 900K concurrent Steam users, second only to Hogwarts Legacy on Steam in 2023. It has continued this momentum, with a new report claiming sales have exceeded 5.2 million units.

Why it matters: The RPG has undeniably set new standards for the industry, with vast scale and complex gameplay systems. All of this is made even better by an engaging narrative.

Baldur's Gate 3

According to the Belgian Embassy in China, Baldur’s Gate 3 has sold over 5.2 million copies.

This figure also includes early access sales, which were previously reported at around 2.5 million units. The embassy reports that these figures are accurate as of August 16, pointing to 2.7 million sales in less than two weeks.

While this is an already impressive milestone for a game appealing to a niche audience, Baldur’s Gate 3 is expected to reach even greater heights once it releases on PlayStation next month.

Following a successful run on Steam, the RPG managed to surpass Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 in terms of pre-orders, becoming the second-highest game on the list of most pre-ordered PS5 games.

The CEO of Larian Studios has also been taken aback by the studio’s latest success. He had expected around 100K concurrent users on Steam at most, but Baldur’s Gate 3 managed to reach nearly nine times as many players.

All of this culminated in a release beyond anything Larian Studios had expected.

With games like Baldur’s Gate 3 available to play and ambitious projects like Starfield right around the corner, 2023 has become an exceptional year for fans of RPG titles.

Larian Studios’ latest work is also expected to raise expectations for new releases, with players demanding more from upcoming games to meet the new bar set by the RPG.
