The New IP Is A Big Hit!

Story Highlight
  • Rebellion CEO has confirmed that an Atomfall sequel is already planned after the game has surpassed everyone’s expectations.
  • The tidbit was confirmed in a new interview, but the fate of the sequel depends on whether Rebellion can secure resources for it.
  • Atomfall has been a staggering success and outperformed the studio’s projections to show strong demand for the new IP.

The Fallout-inspired Atomfall has stood out as one of the most successful new IP launches this year. Despite being a smaller title than many others, the survival-action RPG stacked two million players in just two weeks. So, Rebellion is now already thinking about its future.

Rebellion CEO Jason Kingsley has confirmed that the studio is already considering a sequel for the English sci-fi entry if it can secure resources in the future.

Why it matters: Atomfall has proven to be a staggering success for Rebellion despite launching only a couple of weeks ago, showing that demand for new and smaller IPs is stronger in the gaming scene than many developers realize.

Atomfall
Atomfall has proven to be highly popular on Xbox ever since its launch.

In an interview with GamesIndustry, Jason clarified that Atomfall was possible because of Rebellion’s size and stability. The studio has been around for decades and boasts a tight-knit team of developers that made it possible for it to take the risk.

Now, Rebellion wants to repeat this success with an Atomfall sequel, alongside more games in its other franchises in the future.

Now it looks like we want to do more Atomfall – it’s been successful, can we find the resources to do it? I don’t know.

The CEO also acknowledges comparisons with Fallout ever since the game was revealed. While Atomfall was never meant to be an English Fallout, the post-apocalyptic franchise was still used as a reference point because of genre similarity.

as soon as people started to play it, they realised, ‘no, it’s trying to do its own thing’.

An Atomfall developer argues that games nowadays are made for reports, not players.

On a side note, Atomfall was so successful that it topped all other games on Xbox Game Pass with 268% more players last month

Do you think Atomfall’s success means that Rebellion will create a new sequel for the game, or will the studio move on to other franchises? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.
