Assassin’s Creed Shadows to Return to the Franchise’s Roots with Upcoming Claws of Awaji DLC

Expect Some OG Templar Vs Assassin Action!

Story Highlight
  • Assassin’s Creed Shadows will receive a new DLC expansion titled Claws of Awaji on 16 September.
  • The DLC is expected to return the game to the franchise’s roots by featuring some real Assassins vs Templars conflicts.
  • The DLC offers more than 10 hours of new content, exploring Naoe and Yasuke’s characters in greater depth.

Initially a part of the main game, the Claws of Awaji expansion was reportedly cut from the final release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows due to the developers not meeting the deadline.

The DLC has now finally been given a release date of 16 September after months of development. Now, Ubisoft developers have teased that the expansion might be bringing the game back to the series’ roots, featuring a proper Assassin’s vs Templar clash.

Why it matters: With each entry passing by, newer Assassin’s Creed games have lost the essence of the original games and what made them so special. It’ll be nice to know that Ubisoft is attempting to reconnect with the series’ roots.

Assassin’s Creed 4 Black Flag Remake Teased; Announcement Coming Soon

A few developers behind Assassin’s Creed Shadows recently conducted an AMA session on Reddit. One interesting question from a fan was whether to expect more clashes between Assassins and Templars in the future. The response was quite intriguing.

The Assassins vs. Templars conflict has always been a core pillar of Assassin’s Creed — with Shadows, we first set the protagonist in the setting before expanding on it — now that’s done, we’ve scratched the surface with the Critical Role story drop, and more deep dives are coming soon.

The Claws of Awaji is said to focus more on Naoe and Yasuke’s backgrounds, and the Templars might play a massive role in this regard. Taking place on a brand-new island of Awaji, this new expansion promises more than 10 hours of new content.

Claws of Awaji will also introduce brand-new elements, including a new weapon. At the same time, players search for a mysterious treasure on the island, all while being pursued by a mysterious enemy.

More future content is planned for the game as well as new modern-day content from the Animus hub.
