Assassin’s Creed: Ubisoft To Increase Number Of Devs By 40%

More Devs Working On Assassin's Creed!

After the success of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Ubisoft announced another installment in the franchise, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, during Ubisoft Forward in September 2022.

Though Ubisoft didn’t announce the game’s release, a recent leak suggested that the game might be released in August 2023. With another Ubisoft Forward coming next month, Ubisoft is expected to reveal the game’s release date soon.

However, Assassin’s Creed Mirage is not the only game in development from the franchise, and a recent Ubisoft report suggests that the studio plans to increase the number of developers working on the IP by 40%.

Why it matters: Ubisoft is working on multiple Assassin’s Creed projects. Games like Assassin’s Creed Red and more will come with varying degrees of scope, and more developers could help Ubisoft accelerate production on these titles.

In the recent Ubisoft earning reports, Yves Guillemot who is the CEO of Ubisoft said:

“As part of our progressive reallocation of resources, we notably plan to increase the number of talents working on the Assassin’s Creed brand by 40%.”

Moreover, he further stated that over 2000 people have already been working on the upcoming Assassin’s Creed titles, and as they plan to increase the numbers by 40%, the franchise will see over 2800 developers working on it.

Interestingly, Ubisoft noted that 700 developers had been laid off since September. However, this does not appear to have made an impact on the company’s ambitions for the Assassin’s Creed franchise.

Ubisoft further confirmed that the additional development staff on Assassin’s Creed would be reallocated from other projects currently in development at Ubisoft.

Assassin’s Creed recently broke its active player count record for a single year. This, along with the recent success of the RPG trilogy, has likely motivated Ubisoft to further invest in the games for the next few years.
