  • A major poll from BAFTA has declared Arthur Morgan as Rockstar’s best protagonist.
  • He beat out characters like Nathan Drake on the list.
  • Lara Croft was declared the ultimate winner due to her legacy and popularity.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a game with many strengths. From its open world to its narrative, Rockstar’s latest release nails nearly every aspect. Equally impressive is protagonist Arthur Morgan.

Since 2018, many have come to hold the opinion that Arthur Morgan is among gaming’s best characters. This opinion was reaffirmed by BAFTA on its 20th anniversary, which hailed the character as Rockstar’s best protagonist.

Why it matters: Rockstar created a modern masterpiece in 2018. The fact that Red Dead Redemption 2 continues to receive recognition today is proof of its excellence.

The results were shared by BAFTA following a massive poll to decide gaming’s most iconic characters. Not too long ago, Red Dead Redemption 2 won the best gaming sequel in a similar poll.

While Arthur Morgan eventually lost to the likes of Mario and Lara Croft, he was the only Rockstar protagonist on the list. He ended up pulling ahead of the likes of Final Fantasy’s Cloud Strife, Uncharted’s Nathan Drake, and more.

Roger Clark also deserves credit for his performance as the character in this instance. He captured Arthur Morgan’s dynamic and evolving character throughout the game particularly well, allowing the audience to connect with him on a deeper level.

While Arthur Morgan might not be the best person in the Rockstar’s Wild West universe, the player can’t help but feel attached to him by the end of the game. This characteristic makes him Rockstar’s best protagonist.

As for the competition, Rockstar has no shortage of strong characters. The likes of Niko Bellic and John Marston are worth mentioning.

This is a fitting accolade for a game that is now the industry’s 7th best-seller. The excellence on display is rarely matched by other games, so we don’t find it surprising in the slightest that Rockstar continues to receive recognition for its work from 2018.
