Games like Bethesda’s Starfield will lead the charge in 2023, and more games are expected to follow, soon after. Despite an already impressive portfolio of upcoming games, Microsoft does not intend to rest easy.
A brand new rumor from the latest episode of the Xbox Era podcast has talked about a potential game from developer Asobo Studio, the talented team behind Microsoft Flight Simulator.
The developer is rumored to be working on a prototype for a brand new racing game.
Nick’s source believes that Asobo Studio is prototyping the game for Xbox. He emphasized that the supposed title is only being prototyped at the moment. Therefore, Asobo Studio’s alleged game is unlikely to be released anytime soon.
This rumor is interesting, given Microsoft’s current racing franchise. The Forza Horizon and Forza Motorsport games have been Microsoft’s most well received releases in recent times. Forza Horizon 5 crossed 20 million players in June, and the title continues to do well.
Forza Motorsport is also set to release in 2023, focusing on racing simulation compared to the arcade racing of Forza Horizon. A Job listing have also hinted at Forza Horizon 6 being in development, adding up to a total of two Forza games for the coming years.
Additionally, a recent report suggested that Forza Horizon 6 would be the final entry in the Forza Horizon franchise. If true, Asobo Studio’s involvement in a brand new racing game would not be too far-fetched.
The developer has become well known for their work on Microsoft Flight Simulator. Microsoft could be looking to utilize the team’s experience with simulation, for a hardcore racing sim. As mentioned earlier, the word ‘prototype’ was used to describe the game. This would mean that the title is several years away from being playable.
However, it should be noted that nothing is set in stone. Nick has not confirmed anything, and all rumors are prone to being inaccurate. As such, it would be wise to take this information with a grain of salt.
Asobo Studio is currently preparing to launch the much anticipated Plague Tale: Requiem. The game is set to release next month, and Game Pass members can access the title, day one on release.
Going by this rumor, the developer could be moving on to a new project soon. A new racing game is no easy task, but Asobo Studio’s work on Microsoft Flight Simulator and Plague Tale should give consumers some hope for the future.
