At Tech4Gamers, we compare SSDs using specifications that help explain compatibility, capacity, performance and endurance. The tool can place NVMe and SATA drives side by side and highlight differences in interface, form factor, sequential speeds, rated endurance, NAND type and other available specifications. Headline read and write speeds do not describe every real-world workload, but they remain useful when combined with the rest of the drive’s characteristics. Our comparison is designed to help you narrow down storage options before moving into deeper review data, pricing and workload-specific testing.

General SSD questions

How do I compare two SSDs?

Compare interface, capacity, sequential and random performance, endurance, controller, NAND type, form factor and other specifications. The fastest headline read speed is not the only factor that affects the experience.

Is NVMe faster than SATA SSD?

Yes, NVMe SSDs can provide much higher bandwidth and lower protocol overhead than SATA drives. The real-world difference depends on the workload, because everyday application loading does not always scale with sequential speed.

Does PCIe 4.0 vs PCIe 5.0 matter for SSDs?

PCIe 5.0 drives can reach higher peak transfer speeds, but they may cost more and run hotter. For many gaming and general-use workloads, a strong PCIe 4.0 SSD can still provide excellent performance.

What does SSD endurance or TBW mean?

TBW, or terabytes written, is a manufacturer endurance rating indicating how much data can be written under the warranty terms. It is useful when comparing drives for heavy write workloads.

Should I compare SSD random speed or sequential speed?

Sequential speed matters for large file transfers, while random performance is more relevant to many operating-system and application workloads. A balanced SSD comparison should consider both.
