Story Highlight
  • The Last of Us Season 2 won best adaptation at The Game Awards 2025.
  • It won over other nominees like A Minecraft Movie, Until Dawn, Devil May Cry, and Splinter Cell: Deathwatch.
  • The show is being renewed for Season 3, and the plot is being extended from the original story.

Live-action adaptations of video games have been taking off like a storm in recent times, and we already have great adaptations like Fallout on Prime, Detective Pikachu, and most importantly, The Last of Us on HBO.

The live-action adaptation of the iconic PlayStation IP specifically gained traction like none other and just won the best adaptation at The Game Awards 2025.

Why it matters: Video game adaptations have had their fair share of downs before becoming successful in recent times. It’s nice to see such a great IP being expanded away from the gaming medium.

Other nominees for the category included: A Minecraft Movie, Until Dawn, Devil May Cry, and Splinter Cell Deathwatch. Even amid this tough competition, The Last of Us Season 2 managed to come out on top.

Still, Season 2 had its fair share of controversy, and fans review-bombed the show over the casting choices. Even against all these odds, the adaptation succeeded and won over the same fans in the latter half of the run.
