- Mindseye promised a huge potential, but had a miserable launch due to being broken.
- Former developers believe that there is no way the game can make a comeback.
- The studio laid off around 300 employees after the disastrous launch.
Mindseye was supposed to be the next big video game IP in the industry. Brimming with potential with a team of former Rockstar developers, the expectations were high. The launch was instead a disaster and labeled as the worst game of the year.
Recently, some former and current Build A Rocket Boy developers lodged a mass complaint against the studio for mistreatment. The former developers also believe that Mindseye will never be able to make a huge comeback.
Why it matters: The studio CEO stated that the primary reason Mindseye failed was because of saboteurs, and the game will indeed relaunch in the future, but former studio employees think it won’t be possible.
The BBC just launched a report with a deep insight into the whole drama surrounding the game. The report delves into the failed launch, the crunch the employees endured, and the working conditions in the studio.
Notably, some former Mindseye developers who talked to the BBC revealed that they believe the studio and the title will never recover from this. So, the CEO was hoping for a Cyberpunk 2077-like turnaround, but that is off the table.
They said after laying off 300 devs, there is no way it is making a comeback. They further talked about the state of the gaming industry and how everything seems to be so uncertain now, as the layoffs have a huge impact on them.
Nonetheless, the studio says the team was exceptionally talented, but the project just couldn’t take off. Former employees in their letter also said they were in a creative disagreement with the leadership, which resulted in the disaster.
