Battlefield 6 Might Not Stay Realistic Forever!

Story Highlight
  • Dice has promised to avoid cartoony skins for Battlefield 6.
  • However, the creative director’s latest statement implies that this commitment may not last forever.
  • The game could see a shift in tone and themes toward the latter part of its lifespan.

Battlefield 6 has received widespread praise for its portrayal of authentic themes and realism at a time when most games are flooded with goofy crossover skins. Dice has also made it a point to communicate the fact that Battlefield 6 will not feature such skins.

Interestingly, however, the team might still have plans to do something different for the game eventually. A recent statement from the developers implies that realism may not always remain a core focus for Battlefield 6.

Why it matters: Battlefield 6 seems to have done everything right so far, but fans are already concerned about EA and Dice’s future plans following this statement.

BF6 Is Doing A Lot Right So Far

The Battlefield 6 Technical Director recently spoke to IGN and discussed the subject of skins yet again.

He reiterated that Dice has no intentions of following in Call of Duty’s footsteps, but also made an interesting remark toward the end of his statement. According to Christian Buhl, the gritty look is something Battlefield 6 will retain, at least for a while.

We are a gritty, grounded, realistic shooter. That’s where we intend to be, and that’s what the game is going to look like for a while.

The director’s statement implies that Battlefield 6 will not retain its current look throughout the game’s lifespan. Fans have also noted that the director seems to have left the doors open to more goofy skins making it into the first-person shooter later down the line.

Call of Duty has followed a similar strategy in the past, so this would not be totally unheard of. Past games in the series stuck to realistic skins during initial seasons, but this was quickly thrown out of the window in favor of cartoony skins during later seasons.

Fans Want To See Dice Steering Clear of Over-The-Top Skins

Perhaps Dice will adopt a similar approach, though it’s hard to imagine the team introducing skins as goofy as Call of Duty’s. Fortunately, both studios seem to be quite receptive to fan feedback, so things could change very quickly at any point.

What do you make of the director’s statement? Let’s discuss in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.
