Released A AAA Game Recently!

Story Highlight
  • Hideo Kojima has stated in a recent interview that he thinks all AAA games look the same.
  • In the same interview, he said that most of the interesting games being developed right now are indie games.
  • Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a good example of how unique an indie game can be.

Kojima Productions has recently released one of the most critically acclaimed games of 2025, Death Stranding 2. While the mastermind behind the game, Hideo Kojima, didn’t want to appeal to the mass media, his game received a pretty positive reception from almost everyone.

His game is considered interesting and bizarre, but it seems Kojima thinks indie games are more interesting. In a recent interview, Kojima revealed that he believes the most interesting games being made right now are indie games

Why it matters: Hideo Kojima is known for his work in the industry by almost every gamer. He is a legendary auteur who has revolutionised gaming more than once.

Death Stranding 2 is one of the highest-rated games of 2025

He believes that, like many creative fields, the most interesting work is happening among indies, while the big budget studios are churning out things that are safe and tremendously boring.

In the same interview, Kojima said that almost every single AAA game out there looks the same to him, as there is just too much lack of variety. Kojima seems actually disappointed with the state the industry is in

He thinks it is very important to put something new in games for the industry instead of just chasing visuals. His concerns are absolutely valid, as the majority of the developers are chasing the same trend, and that is getting boring.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Kojima created Death Stranding 2, which, while it seems bizarre, is pretty enjoyable and may not be for everyone, and that is fine. He thinks a game should be unique and feature new things that make it different from others.

So, Kojima is right to think that most of the interesting games being developed right now are indies. Clair Obsucr: Expedition 33 can be used as a perfect example, as this game came out of nowhere and is now the highest user-rated game on Metacritic. This game has influenced the RPG genre for the better.
