Fans Believe Superman Game Should Be Doable Following Recent Hits Like God of War

Superhero Games Are Also Much Better Now Than They Used To Be!

Story Highlight
  • Fans believe the gaming industry should try its hand at a Superman game again.
  • They state that examples like God of War and Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot show extreme power fantasies done right.
  • James Gunn’s recent success with Superman might prompt a proper AAA gaming project in the future.

Warner Bros. does not currently have a Superman game in the works, but this has not deterred fans from calling for a gaming adaptation based on the Son of Krypton.

With James Gunn’s recent take on the character becoming a massive hit, demand for a Superman game is back in full force. In fact, fans are arguing that the notion of the character being too difficult to adapt is outdated.

Why it matters: Superman has never received a proper game on par with Spider-Man and Batman: Arkham. The character has also been missing from gaming for well over a decade at this point.

The Character Last Appeared In Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League

For context, it has long been argued that Superman is too overpowered for his own good. Fans used to believe that a game based on the character would not work because the experience would not be satisfying enough.

In the past, games like Superman Returns attempted to introduce a health bar for Metropolis instead of the character to work around this problem. However, such attempts have been largely hit or miss.

Anyhow, fans on Neogaf recently argued that titles like God of War captured a similar power fantasy without overly nerfing the players. Kratos is also much more powerful than fans would expect from playing any of the recent God of War titles, but Santa Monica did a solid job balancing the character’s lore and in-game strength.

Fans also pointed to examples like Dragon Ball Z Kakarot since Goku boasts similar powers as Superman, including super speed, flight, super strength, and various long-ranged attacks.

Fans still acknowledged that a proper Superman game would be tricky to make, but they believe examples like Batman: Arkham and Spider-Man are proof that different types of superhero games can be done well.

Superman
The Character’s Destructive Powers Are Unlike Any Other Superhero’s Abilities

Following James Gunn’s latest film, Superman is expected to go through a new wave of popularity. Perhaps this will encourage game studios and DC to finally attempt a proper AAA project based on the character.

More films based on the character are expected in the near future, so a brand new game seems like a safe bet in the coming year.
