- While Death Stranding 2’s trailer looked impressive, the collector’s edition has caused controversy among fans.
- Fans criticize the $229.99 Collector’s Edition for lacking a physical disc and art book.
- This is contradictory to Kojima’s statement defending physical releases.
With Death Stranding 2 finally receiving a trailer, the wait was worthwhile. The trailer included almost 10 minutes of footage, including cinematic shots, wonderful art direction, and visual fidelity that many thought wasn’t possible in the current console generation.
Pre-orders for the game have already started, which have brought their share of controversy. Fans complain about the lack of physical items in Death Stranding 2’s $229.99 Collector’s Edition, which contradicts Kojima’s statement on physical releases.
Why It Matters: Collector’s Editions for video games are slowly dying, with developers offering digital content instead of physical. These editions no longer feature physical copies, which is absurd and defeats the purpose.

Death Stranding 2’s Collector’s Edition includes a collector’s box, game code, a 15-inch statue, Kojima’s letter, a 3-inch doll figurine, and bonus in-game content.
Fans criticize the absence of a physical disc and an art book in the Collector’s Edition. With the digital market’s overwhelming takeover, physical games are already disappearing.
Additionally, an art book for a game like Death Stranding 2 is a must after what we’ve seen from the trailer. Kojima’s art direction for the game is one of the best works we’ve ever seen from him, and it would’ve been nice to see some concept art and designs involved in the game’s development.
This contradicts Kojima’s own statement regarding physical releases. The auteur previously voiced his concern over the ownership of digital media, which would no longer be “owned by individuals on their own initiative.”

Still, this controversy won’t affect Death Stranding 2, as the game has already convinced buyers from its trailer who will be eager to get their hands on the title when it launches on June 26 later this year.
