PlayStation Didn't Explain Anything Else About The Outage!

Story Highlight
  • PlayStation is gifting all current PS Plus subscribers multiple free days of the service to make up for the recent PSN outage.
  • Users not subscribed to PS Plus won’t be able to avail this offer.
  • PSN went down for almost 24 hours and Sony has yet to offer any explanation.

On February 8, life stopped for a huge chunk of the gaming world after PSN services went down for almost 24 hours due to unexplained reasons. Players were unable to play multiplayer games or access the PlayStation Store, and some were even locked out of their accounts.

Thankfully, Sony has since restored PSN to its original capabilities, and people can freely play whatever title they want. But, as you may expect, gamers are still outraged by this untimely degradation of PSN service and as a result, PlayStation is giving out freebies to appease its player base.

Why it matters: PlayStation gifting users a few perks is nice to see, but many would rather have a transparent explanation for the outage.

PlayStation
PlayStation is trying to make up for a dark 24-hour period.

The Japanese giant has revealed on X that it will be giving players five days of free PlayStation Plus to make up for the outage. However, only users who currently have a PlayStation Plus subscription can avail this offer.

Hence, if you aren’t subscribed to PS Plus, don’t expect any gifts from PlayStation. Of course, this does seem a bit harsh, considering gamers without a subscription were not able to access the store or play online games that don’t require PS Plus.

Sony has also kept quiet about what really happened behind the scenes of this surprising outage. Fans are demanding answers from the company, but there has been no official word regarding the root of this issue.

On social media, PlayStation just called it anoperational issue,” thanking fans for their patience in the matter.

PlayStation physical media
The PSN outage has brought attention to the security of digital media and declining physical sales

With physical media declining every year on both PlayStation and Xbox, a digital future has been seen as the way forward, but this PSN outage shows we may need physical media to hang around.
