- The Blood of Dawnwalker’s director recently claimed that he doesn’t want to make a game featuring a superhero like from Marvel movies.
- However, an RPG protagonist should have some sort of power, so the director decided to take a unique approach.
- Cohen, the game’s main character, will be a normal human during the day and a Vampire during the night, featuring special powers.
A trailer for The Blood of Dawnwalker was released recently, exciting a massive fandom. The game’s hype has been increasing tremendously, and the developer is making sure it does.
Since the reveal, the game’s director, a former CDPR veteran and The Witcher 3 director, has shared extensive details about the upcoming RPG.
As such, the director has shared insights on the protagonist, highlighting unique traits that could set a new standard for the RPG genre’s main characters.
Why it matters: RPGs feature different types of protagonists having an arsenal full of different stuff. However, Rebel Wolves is doing something pretty unique and could be revolutionary.
Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, the founder of Rebel Wolves and the director of The Blood of Dawnwalker, claimed in an interview with PCGamer that he doesn’t want to make a game featuring a superhero like there are in Marvel movies.
He said that such stories are hard to make as the protagonist just keeps getting stronger. So, he was looking to make a protagonist grounded and had to solve problems in different ways, but he was also a superhero of some sort.
That is how The Blood of Dawnwalker’s main character came into being, potentially setting the bar for a main character in an RPG.
I wanted to do a game which would not be a game about, like, a normal, let’s say superhero, which we know from Marvel movies. I was looking for an idea for a hero who was more grounded and had to solve problems in a different way. But I also wanted to give players a superhero of sorts.
-Konrad Tomaszkiewicz
Cohen, the main character, will be a normal human during the day and a Vampire, featuring superpowers at night. According to Tomaszkiewicz, this concept is well-known in pop culture but hasn’t been used in games yet.
Tomaszkiewicz thinks that this concept is interesting because no one has ever done it, but this also comes with a risk as people may not like it. However, if it works, it can be revolutionary.
Rebel Wolves consist of former CDPR veterans, and they have some crazy ideas to implement in-game, which they couldn’t have done in a team as massive as in their previous studio.
