Microsoft was only getting comfortable with the Activision acquisition, and the US Federal Trade Commission has opened another inquiry against the tech giants. This time, the FTC is targeting various corporations and departments under the company with an anti-trust case.
Why it matters: Microsoft faced a long FTC trial during its acquisition of Activision Blizzard, but the court has once again opened investigations against the company.
As Sony tries to acquire Kadokawa, FromSoftware’s parent company, Microsoft will have to fight its way through another case. The investigation will focus on the company’s AI, cybersecurity, and cloud-based products.
The FTC has opened this investigation as its former chair, Lina Khan, signs off. The US is facing a shift in leadership as President Joe Biden ends his era, and Donald Trump is now taking over the position.
Bloomberg has revealed that FTC sent Microsoft a detailed inquiry comprising hundreds of pages. The anti-trust investigation has been launched after over a year of informal interviews with competitors and business partners. The main concern here is how Microsoft bundles all these products together and releases them to the public
Microsoft has been very active in AI, especially after investing in it and launching Copilot. Furthermore, with Xbox, cloud gaming has especially become something of great interest as it pushes the ‘Everything is Xbox‘ motto.
Xbox owners will be seriously concerned about this new case as it aims to kick off a successful 2025. However, these investigations could lead to unwanted results for Microsoft.
