Assassin’s Creed Shadows Won’t Force Players To Pick Between Naoe & Yasuke

Nearly Whole Game Playable With Your Favorite Character!

Story Highlight
  • Assassin’s Creed Shadows is bringing back two simultaneously playable characters for the first time in many years.
  • Ubisoft states that the game will rarely force players to choose a certain character.
  • However, players will find certain benefits to picking characters based on the situation.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows seems to be a fresh start for the IP. Following the in-depth footage and new gameplay trailer, Ubisoft has shared various key details on the title, showing more promise with each reveal.

According to a new report, Ubisoft states players are free to switch between Yasuke and Naoe.

Why it matters: Previously, games that offered dual protagonists typically tried to balance the two. This can sometimes lead to frustration when players are forced to pick a character they don’t enjoy.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows introduces Naoe and Yasuke, two very different characters. The former is a shinobi, while the latter is a samurai. This distinction also plays a role in their gameplay styles.

Ubisoft’s latest gameplay showed both characters, but players were given the opportunity to pick their favorite when approaching the main story mission. In an interview with GamesRadar, the game director elaborated that players won’t be restricted.

According to the game director, players can even play most of Assassin’s Creed Shadows through the lens of just one of the two protagonists.

If you want to be only one character, you can for most of the game. We’re not really strong-arming anyone to switch back and forth.

Ubisoft also says that certain missions are better played with one of the two characters. However, the team won’t enforce these advantages. For instance, a stealth-based mission can still be played with Yasuke. Likewise, Naoe can take conflicts head-on.

That said, fans can expect some missions to break away from this rule. This would resemble how Insomniac made missions exclusive for Miles or Peter in Spider-Man 2.

Given the choice, we are certainly more excited about Naoe. She seems to be more in line with the typical assassin archetype that the franchise has been known for.

Meanwhile, Yasuke will appeal to those looking to play a more brutal character. Whichever choice you pick, Assassin’s Creed Shadows promises a thrilling journey once it arrives on November 15.
